On this page I will try to give you an overview of the philosophy of the Turtlebite Flash CMS.

	* The Flash CMS is a back end solution: You build your website the way you like , then “plug in” the Flash CMS later on.
	* Everything is organized in so-called “slots”.
	* A single slot can contain any number of textfields and images.
	* You can have as many slots as you need .
	* You can copy/move/add new/delete slots.
	* You can define different layouts for the textfields/images ins…

Turtlebite Flash CMS Framework is a back end solution written in AS2. It uses PHP, XML and MySQL. Your front end website has to be in AS3.

How does it work?

Basically there are these steps:

	* Build your website any way you like (AS3).
	* Upload and test your site on the server.
	* Now you want some parts to be editable. Upload the Flash CMS framework to a folder on your server, let's say “cms”.
	* Pick out the parts of your website you want to be editable (text and images).

In the Fleb Framework, a very simple but efficient singleton class for handling global variables is used: VarCentral. You can easily use it for your own purpose, add any value (string, object, array... whatever) and access it from anywhere in your project.

Fleb Framework: Introduction

What is the Fleb Framework?

It's an open source front-end framework for AS3 to help you build pure flash websites with full SEO support. It is based on the Global Navigation for Flash and the SWFAddress SEO Solution. You define the whole structure of the website (navigation, title, description, keywords, assets etc.) in an XML file which is parsed by your SWF files for your flash site and PHP files for the no-javascript SEO version of your site. Fleb Framework: Overview

1 - index.php

The index.php embeds base.swf. It uses SWFObject to detect the flash plugin and SWFAddress for URL rewriting (by using mod_rewrite in .htaccess). Every request is rerouted to index.php.

2 - base.swf

This is the base of your website. Its whole purpose is to initialise the Fleb Framework and to load the main website (main.swf, see 3). It contains only the neccessary setup and a preloader. This SWF should be kept as small as possible in order to …

Info about multi language usage:
Note the character ”{” in the nodes, for example in description, language, btnLabel etc. This character is used to split the strings into arrays. Throughout the website, the language is referred to as a position number in these arrays. Therefor, the first language you set will be number 0, the second is number 1 and so on. You can have 5 different languages in structure.xml. This should be enough for most cases, if not, you can increase the number in Navi…

These are the basic steps to give you an idea. The best and most efficient way is if you choose an example and examine the files to get you started.

Step 1: Download

Download the latest version of Global Navigation

Step 2: Create button

Open the mainBtn.fla. It has infos and explanations on the timeline and in the movieclips. In this file you define the design of your button: the backgrounds and text labels of the different states (rollover,rollout, press, release etc.)

Note: Since version 1.56 the EventCentral class is no longer used. Instead, the NavigationManager itself handles the events.

So, everywhere where it was “EventCentral.getInstance().addEventListener(......” you can use the NavigationManager instance, for example: “navigationManager.addEventListener(....”. That is the only difference. This should only concern you if you want to set up more than one global navigation.

[Global Navigation Overview]

Concept

This global navigation is written in ActionScript 3 having the designer in mind. I wanted to have a solution where I can put 95% of my time into the creative part like ”what colours look nice?, what fonts should I use?, how will I animate it?” and only 5% in the technical part like ”how do I programm the spacing of the buttons? how do I handle the button states and submenues?”. I guess you know what I mean... :-D

<images>
 <image name="hello world" url="hello_world.jpg" description="this is just a test description"/>
 <image name="my second image" url="second_image.jpg" description="this is my second picture"/>
 <image name="and another pic" url="another_pic.jpg" description="another picture I took some time ago..."/>…

In the basic version, the Online XML Editor is a visual editor for XML files. You don't have to worry about proper syntax, can drag and drop nodes and attributes. By using special configuration files you can adapt it to your special needs, for example simplify the process of creating site xml files for the Gaia Framework, or the Global Navigation.

This class takes a movieclip or sprite as a content, adjusts the width to the selected paper format (landscape or portrait) and prints out the content. If the height is larger than the paper height it will a) resize the whole content to fit to the paper size if multipage is set to false, or b) automatically print out to as many pages as needed. By doing so, the ratio of width and height is always preserved.

Use “w” and “h” if, for example, the content to be printed contains some stuff off stage (a mask, starting position of an animated mc or whatever), which will lead to an uncorrect size.
